Steve Bruce convinced Newcastle United players are safe after full return to training

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce admits that the Magpies are still getting used to life after lockdown.

United trained in glorious sunshine at Benton on Thursday and did so as a group for the first time since March.

Bruce hopes that the session was another on the path back to some type of normality, but as players left the training ground straight after the session without going through the usual routine of visits to the treatment room and canteen for lunch, the Toon boss said: "The world has changed - and it's not normal.

"After a session like that there would normally be massages and that's not allowed or go to the canteen.

"They have to arrive dressed and park three places away.

"So it's all stuff you have to adhere to yourself.

"We have proven it looks very safe."

United's players are being tested for Covid-19 three times a week as the Premier League push for high standards of health and safety.

Bruce said: "We have been tested again for the fourth time in 10 days.

"So how lucky are we?

"Other people are in desperate need of it we are getting everybody done and that can only be a good thing."

But Bruce feels his side are getting there in terms of fitness.

Bruce told NUFC TV: "We're on the right tracks.

"Everybody's aim is we'd like to get it started.

"Everybody in football would like to get it started.

"But of course it has to be safe and has to be right.

"There are a lot of protocols to be met, let's hope we are OK."
