Steve Bruce confirms quadruple injury blow for Newcastle trip to Man City

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that key forwards Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin are doubts for their Premier League trip to Manchester City.

City beat Newcastle in the FA Cup last weekend, but Bruce's men are unbeaten in the league since the re-start, in part due to the form of Almiron and Saint-Maximin. The pair have scored or assisted seven goals between them in that time.

However, the duo picked up concerns in the 2-2 draw with West Ham at the weekend, and Bruce says they are serious doubts for the trip to face City.

In addition, Bruce confirmed that striker Andy Carroll and captain Jamal Lascelles are also doubts for tomorrow's game after both started against City in the cup.

Bruce said: "Unfortunately we’ve picked up one or two. Almirón and Saint-Maximin in particular are struggling.

"Andy Carroll picked up a groin strain. Jamaal Lascelles has a sore ankle so we have a few."

Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff are definitely out for Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has praised Bruce for his work at Newcastle this season after he lifted them to 12th in the Premier League and clear from relegation worries.

Guardiola said: "He arrived in pre-season when we met in China. He landed there to see the last friendly game and there were a lot of rumours. He has done incredibly well in the Premier League.

"He has already avoided relegation, last season they struggled most of the season until the end. He has done an incredible job. It was tight and difficult [in the November game]. We dropped two more points. We didn’t make an incredible performance but once we had Kevin score the goal we should have been able to finish the game.

"They always have threats. It is a team with good physicality but hopefully we can do a good game like we did a few games ago in the FA Cup."
