Steve Bruce confirms double injury blow for Newcastle United after Brighton defeat

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has suffered a double injury blow after the Magpies were blown away by Brighton & Hove Albion.

At times they made the visitors look like Barcelona with their attacking play as they piled up 12 attempts at goal overall.

But Bruce was not only counting the cost of an early season home defeat which dented the Magpies ' goal difference, he now has two more injuries to worry about.

Indeed, Allan Saint-Maximin was taken off before half-time and new boy Jamal Lewis suffered a head wound after a clash with Yves Bissouma.

Speaking about his £15million left-back, Bruce said: “Jamal’s got a nasty eye injury.

“We’ll see how bad it is.

"We’re not too concerned about the cut, but he might have an abrasion in his eye, so we’ll see how he is."

Bruce was always going to make changes for the League Cup clash at Morecambe.

But now has to assess a knock to Saint-Maximin.

He reflected: "Allan’s got an ankle [injury].

"Again, we’ll have to wait and see what happens with that.”
