Steve Bruce can take Newcastle United 'back to where they were' claims pundit

Dion Dublin reckons Steve Bruce could be the man to take Newcastle United 'back to where they were.'

The former Aston Villa and Manchester United striker - now a BBC pundit - didn't define what he meant by 'where they were' but the assumption is that he meant the upper reaches of the Premier League.

With an impending change in ownership, Dublin is hoping Bruce gets the chance to prove himself with a decent transfer budget.

Speaking on Football Focus, Dublin was impressed by the way Bruce has got on with the job while the takeover saga drags on.

"That is what he does and that is why he is respected by the players and managers alike because he doesn't blab off about what he is going to do, what he should be doing or what the hierarchy should be doing," he said.

"The takeover is going to be the takeover - Bruce is just going to try to get his team the wins.

"Allan Saint-Maximin at the moment is exciting, the Newcastle fans love him.

"He might be that one player who can help Bruce take this team forward and help them to get strong.

"Bruce has got a nice squad of players and if he is allowed the time to add to that I think he is the man who could take Newcastle back to where they were. "
