Steve Bruce boosted by the return of Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin for Brighton clash

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Andy Carroll will be "involved" in the crunch clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Carroll will train again with the Magpies at the club's Benton base and Bruce is excited about the prospect of his return to the hallowed turf at St James' Park.

Bruce has also revealed that for the Saturday night encounter.

However, the game will come too early for Sean Longstaff, who is still out with an ankle injury, although Fabian Schar has been passed fit.

Bruce said today: "We all know that if Andy stays fit he's a wonderful centre-forward.

"He's old school if you like.

"Of his type there is nobody better. A fit Andy will be great for us going forward.

"It's not a young Andy Carroll any more it's the experienced one.

"Can he be a help in the dressing room?

"Can he talk about the demands of the club and what it's like?

"In that respect he's been terrific.

"He has given everybody a lift at the right time."

Bruce hopes that United have now turned the corner when it comes to injuries.

He added: "As long as he comes through he will be involved which is good news for all of us.

"Him and Allan Saint-Maximin, their return will give us something up top.

"We have been hamstrung and dealt cruel blows with injuries.

"We have had long-terms with Yedlin and Gayle.

"This gives us better options in the forward areas."
