Steve Bruce blasts referee Tim Robinson, accusing him of not being ready for Premier League

Steve Bruce does not believe that referee Tim Robinson is ready to officiate in the Premier League.

Robinson was making his top-flight debut and changed his mind in the 58th minute after initially awarding a goal kick.

He then switched and handed Burnley a corner from which Chris Wood netted the winner .

Bruce said: “Is he ready?’

"The question that’s not for me to decide but he looked a rookie today and it’s disappointing in the big league because that one point could be crucial.

"Since Tuesday I knew he was going to be the referee and I thought ‘Hmmmm, Burnley against Newcastle, a big physical encounter."

After the game Sean Dyche claimed Andy Carroll should have been sent off for an elbow on Ben Mee.

Bruce said:” I don’t think it was an elbow. The referee made a rod for his own back with his inexperience.

“He looked short. There were challenges all over, when you jump it’s impossible to jump with your arms by your side.

“It’s why I have a face like I have.”
