Steve Bruce asked if he will stick with his front three again for the Sheffield United game

Steve Bruce believes that his perseverance with his goal shy front three is still paying off despite Newcastle United's reliance on other departments getting the goals against Manchester City.

Bruce felt that Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron - who finally grabbed an assist for the club - put pressure on the City defence.

Although, the Toon boss ended up hooking Joelinton in the closing stages as his barren run continues into a fourth month.

After the game Bruce said: "Look, I have to answer the question with you all the time.

"Allan and Almiron today were excellent in their work.

"I'm delighted for Miggy.

"He's got an assist – great goal from Jetro.

"We've seen three quality goals and we've got two of them, so it was lovely to watch."

Bruce - who celebrated wildly as Jonjo Shelvey rescued a point for his team - also reflected on the visit of the champions.

He said: "I thought their first goal was a little bit fortunate, and the one thing against Manchester City, you need to defend well and of course you need your goalkeeper to make a few saves for you, which he did.

"Of course when De Bruyne hits that one in, a wonder goal, you think with eight minutes to go, that's typical because of that little bit of quality they have got, which certainly De Bruyne's got.

"But thankfully, we still had something to get back at them.

"That was the biggest thing for me, that twice, we've been behind against Manchester City and come back, which bodes well."
