Steve Bruce asked if he will sign a striker this month - and if he will rest players in the FA Cup

Steve Bruce has played down suggestions he will make a move for another striker in the remainder of the window.

The Magpies have Dwight Gayle out until March, but could welcome back Andy Carroll this weekend and Yoshinori Muto in time for the clash with Norwich City.

Newcastle have been offered a host of new forwards by agents but Bruce is focusing on a winger and a left-back at the moment.

Bruce said: "Yeah but...

"We have been without Jetro Willems and without Paul Dummett for the rest of the season.

"Hopefully by the time we have played Norwich, I am quietly confident everybody else will be fit.

"If there is somebody better and can improve the squad I will try to act.

"But what's the point?

"If Andy Carroll and Yoshinori Muto are going to be fit in the next two weeks what would be the point in bringing in somebody if they aren't any better?

"I won't be dragged in to that.

"I will have to be patient and go with what we've got."

Bruce has been preparing his side for the cup clash at Oxford but laughed off talk that he would rest and rotate this weekend.

He said: "Rest them?

"I have nobody to rest!

"Do I play people out of position?

"I could hear grumbling when we were 2-0 down at Everton when I brought on two centre-halves.

"Do you really think I want to do that?

"It's what we have got.

"We got through it."
