Steve Bruce and Newcastle United receive double boost ahead of Arsenal clash

Newcastle United have been handed a double injury boost ahead of their Premier League trip to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Both sides are returning from their inaugural winter break, with Arsenal travelling to Dubai for a warm weather training camp and Newcastle having 10 days since their last game.

The two sides, who are level on 31 points, will be looking to secure a key result in this weekend's game, with Arsenal still hoping to inspire a late charge towards the European places.

Ahead of the clash, Steve Bruce has been handed a significant injury boost as two strikers have returned to training ahead of the trip to north London, Chronicle Live reports.

Joelinton and Yoshinori Muto are both back in training for the Magpies but Bruce remains without Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Jonjo Shelvey, despite the break in action.

Summer-signing Joelinton picked up a rib injury in the FA Cup fourth round replay against Oxford United but the club confirmed he returned to training on Tuesday.

Muto also returned on the same day and is looking to make his return from injury, with his last appearance for the Tyneside outfit coming in early January against Rochdale in the FA Cup.

Newcastle did not elect to sign a striker during the recent January transfer window, which leaves Joelinton and Muto as his only recognised strikers who are available for selection.

The Magpies have used Sean Longstaff and Alain Saint-Maximin in forward roles during the course of the season so far but Bruce will be hoping to avoid similar situations.
