Steve Bruce admits Sheffield Wednesday had 'rub of it' in victory over Nottingham Forest

Steve Bruce admits plenty of last night's Championship action went his side's way as Sheffield Wednesday comfortably beat Nottingham Forest, 3-0.

The result has all but ended the Reds' chances of sneaking into the top six before the end of the season as their horrendous away form continues.

Martin O'Neill is yet to taste victory away from home, with their last win on the road coming back in November.

Wednesday, on the other hand, have leapfrogged Forest and are now just four points outside the top six.

All three of the Owls' goals came during a frantic opening 20 minutes of the second half, but Bruce claims it was all about the opener from Marco Matias.

'We consistently press the self-destruct button' - Nottingham Forest fans fury at 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday defeat

“We got the first goal at a great time just after half-time," said Bruce. "The stats say that around 85 percent of the time, the team that scores first wins the game.

“I think we had a little bit of the rub of it tonight that we didn’t have on Saturday and sometimes that can be the difference.

“My goalkeeper made a key save at the right time and we’ve gone on to win the game comfortably.

“We had to make a few changes but the boys who came in have done themselves proud.

"I said to them when I came into the building a couple of months ago, ‘you will all get your chance’ and it’s really pleasing to see players take that chance."
