Steve Bannon slams RNC after Ronna McDaniel wins reelection in signs of deepening GOP schisms

Steve Bannon on Monday blasted the Republican National Committee just days after Ronna McDaniel cruised to a fourth term as GOP leader over two hardline pro-Trump opponents.

“Whatever you do, don’t send them any money,” Bannon said on his War Room podcast.

The right-wing firebrand defiantly warned MAGA listeners to keep their powder dry, suggesting there might be a new rebellion in the works against the more establishment-oriented McDaniel.

“There’s a lot to talk about the RNC,” Bannon said. “I understand you guys are still worked up. .. Just take a deep breath. There’s going to be a program and a plan for all of it.”

Bannon did not elaborate on what such a “plan” might entail but it could mean more drama as Republicans gear up for the 2024 White House campaign.

McDaniel handily turned aside a challenge from Harmeet Dhillon, who accused her of being too moderate and not a strong enough supporter of far right-wing candidates.

She won with 111 votes, while Dhillon scored just 55. MyPillow.com conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell, an ardent supporter of Trump, got just four votes. Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., who dropped out after considering a run, got one vote.

Trump gave tacit support to McDaniel but some of his strongest supporters, like Kari Lake, the failed MAGA candidate for Arizona governor, strongly backed Dhillon.

McDaniel appears set to lead the GOP through the 2024 election cycle despite being at the helm during three successive underwhelming Republican campaigns.

The just-completed midterm election was a huge disappointment for Republicans who hoped to sweep to a large majority in the House and retake the Senate.

Most analysts and establishment GOP figures blame Trump for hand-picking candidates for statewide races in battleground state that were too radical for moderate voters.

But Bannon and his fellow MAGA hardliners blame the losses on Republicans in name only who failed to rally strongly enough behind Trump’s picks like failed Senate candidates Herschel Walker in Georgia and Blake Masters in Arizona.
