EDM star and former cake thrower Steve Aoki is being sued by a fan who has alleged that a stage dive in 2012 broke her neck and almost paralysed her.

The artist, who is famed for his stage-diving antics, reportedly jumped off the stage in a blow-up dinghy during a show at the Hard Rock Café in San Diego. Brittany Hickman, who says she was underneath the raft at the time, claims she was knocked unconscious and later discovered that she had broken her neck. After spending several days in hospital and missing two months of work, she is now bringing the case to court.

Speaking to ABC 10News, Hickman said: “If I had thrown my arms above my head, reached for something that was too high or picked up something that was too heavy [the doctors said] I could have paralysed myself.”

10News received a statement from Aoki’s attorney which said: “In addition to Mr Aoki, Ms Hickman is also suing Hard Rock. Trial in this matter is scheduled for 28 August, 2015 before Judge Pressman of the San Diego Superior Court. Because of the ongoing litigation and the pending trial date it would not be appropriate for us to respond to your inquiry at this time or permit an interview.”

Aoki and the Hard Rock Café have yet to comment on the incident.
