Sterling K. Brown endearingly predicted he’s going to lose the Oscar to Robert Downey Jr.

Actor Sterling K. Brown did something incredibly rare after being nominated for an Academy Award. He predicted that he’s not going to win one.

The American Fiction co-star earned his first Oscar nomination Best Supporting Actor last month, but he recently admitted on The Graham Norton Show that he does not think he’s going to win in the category.

Brown readily predicted that Oppenheimer actor and screen veteran Robert Downey Jr. will ultimately take home the gold and that he’s just happy to be part of the process.

Downey Jr. is the heavy favorite to win Best Supporting Actor, but Brown’s incredibly classy humility and appreciation for the nomination in general will earn him plenty of respect from his peers.

“Robert Downey Jr.’s going to win, and he’s incredibly deserving,” Brown predicted on the show. “He’s an incredible actor. Like, you should give him love, and the fact that I get a chance to be nominated along with him, and Mr. [Robert] De Niro, and Ryan Gosling and [Mark] Ruffalo. I’m just happy to be in the room.”

Brown is one of the most reliable people in his profession, and it’s really endearing to hear him so gregariously talk about the awards race and his place in it.

While this might not be his year (at absolutely no fault of his own), we could see him hoisting the Oscar one of these days.
