Steps star Faye Tozer's mum has lung cancer 2 years after breast cancer diagnosis

Steps hitmaker Faye Tozer's mum Dorothy has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

The singer's mother - who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 - was told in December by doctors that she had cancer on her lungs following a scan after suffering with respiratory problems.

The mother and daughter shared the devastating health diagnosis with OK! magazine, with Dorothy explaining that medical professionals discovered growing cancer on the left lung, then a smaller, different cancer on the right lung.

In March, Dorothy had an operation to remove the cancer in the left lung and last week she underwent CyberKnife treatment, a robotic radiotherapy procedure, to help the right lung.

Dorothy is trying to stay positive and shared: "Doctors have said, ‘We can treat it – but it might not kill it'" and that "they might be having me back for more treatment as the years go on."

She added that as soon as the surgeon agreed to operate that she "gave up smoking on the spot" after decades of puffing.

Sharing on the shock, Faye added that it "was so disheartening" due to her mum just "coming to the end of the breast cancer treatment" but that her "treatment has been brilliant."

It comes after Iconic pop band Steps have been plotting a major comeback to 'give something back' to loyal fans.

The Tragedy singers, consisting of Faye, Ian 'H' Watkins, Lisa Scott-Lee, Claire Richards and Lee Latchford-Evans, want to celebrate their 25th anniversary next year in a huge way.

"There's plenty in the pipeline that's new," Faye's bandmate Lisa explained. "Big plans are already in place for that. I can't say that much or I'd get in trouble."

She continued to The Sun: "It's nice to keep a bit of mystery, but we like to keep it fun and give back to our fans who have been so loyal over the years.

"We've never really done festivals. I'd love to do one so maybe we will get a chance to put on our own. Who knows!"

Steps launched in 1997 with their line-dancing classic 5,6,7,8.

They had 14 UK top-10 singles and three multi-platinum albums all within a three-year period.

Their albums Step One, Steptacular, Buzz, Tears On The Dancefloor and What the Future Holds all reached the top five in the UK charts.
