Stepps Indian restaurant find vintage 'Tony's Cafe' sign under shopfront

An Indian restaurant and takeaway in Stepps has made an amazing discovery when changing up their new shop front.

Indian restaurant Real Spice were taking off their old shop front sign when they found the historical gem.

Stepps locals will remember Tony's Cafe on Cumbernauld Road - and this was a blast from the past.

Underneath the sign was the vintage sign for Tony's Parlour, still visible in all its former glory.

Bosses at the takeaway have informed Glasgow Live that while they still installed the new sign, Tony's Cafe is still intact underneath - for another boss to discover one day in future!

Local Stepps residents were happy to share memories of the old Cafe and its owner.

AJ McMahon said: "As children ( 8 in the family) we went out for the day with 'a piece on jam' each to keep us going.

"We walked from Barmulloch to Provanmill past the rhubarb fields and past what was then the boy's home to Hogganfield Loch and went out in the paddle boats.

"Sometimes we walked the quartermile bridge and then made our way to Tony's for an ice cream cone. We then started the journey home for our dinner. No adults with us we all took care of each other. Happy days".
