Stephon Gilmore shares his initial reaction to watching film of Super Bowl LIII

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, a film junkie, waited a surprisingly long period of time before studying the tape on Super Bowl LIII. Gilmore checked in on Twitter on Friday to share his thoughts on what he saw after reviewing the New England Patriots 13-3 title win over the Los Angeles Rams for the first time.

Indeed, the game was fairly violent, with a number of big hits. At one point, Rams defensive end Dante Fowler ripped down running back Sony Michel with one arm in the first quarter. Later in the game, Patriots defensive end Deatrich Wise did the same to running back C.J. Anderson.

That physicality, at least for the Patriots, didn’t come without production (or the lack thereof from the Los Angeles). The Rams rushing offense, powered by Anderson and Todd Gurley, had just 62 yards at 3.4 yards per carry. New England had 12 quarterback hits, eight pass deflections (two from linebackers), seven tackles for loss and four sacks.

Gilmore recognized what was clear about the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in the history of the NFL: it was a hard-fought game.
