Stephon Gilmore impressed by Patriots rookie WR N’Keal Harry

Getting matched up with Stephon Gilmore was one of the more daunting tasks for NFL wide receivers last season.

Gilmore was arguably the best cornerback in the league in 2018, and his incredible performances helped the New England Patriots win a Super Bowl. He’s the same guy that is now matched up against rookie wide receiver N’Keal Harry in minicamp.

New England took Harry with the No. 32 pick in April’s draft, and he’s gathered a lot of hype. Especially since he’s 6 feet 4 and 213 pounds, and can high-point the ball with anyone. Gilmore honed in on Harry’s strength and abilities while speaking with The Athletic’s Jeff Howe.

“He’s a big guy,” Gilmore said. “I pressed him one time and tried to get my hands on him, and he threw them down. He’s really strong. He’s just got to keep working. He’s got great coaches and great players around him. It’s not easy for any of us. But if he keeps working, he’ll be in the right place when it’s time.”

When it comes to his demeanor and attitude on the field, Harry seems to be more reserved.

“He’s kind of quiet, and I’m kind of quiet,” Gilmore said. “He’s a good dude. I’m just trying to focus on my technique. If I see something, I’ll tell him. Other than that, I feel like he’s got the right coaches to help him become a great player.”

Harry is also very passionate when he messes up, and that will translate very well in this New England environment.

“He keeps competing,” Gilmore continued. “He’s mad if he drops a pass. He’s mad when he messes up. When you see stuff like that, he shows you he really cares that he wants to be a great player.”

If Harry can learn how to get an edge on Gilmore, he will be set up perfectly to square off with the NFL’s best cornerbacks this season.
