Stephon Gilmore awed by Odell Beckham trade: ‘Now that’s crazy’

Stephon Gilmore felt like pretty much everyone else when the news came down that the New York Giants were trading Odell Beckham Jr to the Cleveland Browns. Gilmore, the New England Patriots star cornerback, shared a brief thought on Twitter on Tuesday night.

Gilmore and the Patriots were already slated to play against Beckham Jr. New England has an appointment with the Giants during the 2019. After Beckham’s trade to the Browns, Gilmore will still have to cover Beckham in 2019 — it’s just that Baker Mayfield, not Eli Manning, will be throwing the ball. That said, Beckham will be a more regular opponent for the Patriots in the coming years now that he’s in the AFC.

Gilmore and Beckham have only played against each other once in their career in a Week 4 contest between the Giants and the Buffalo Bills in 2015. Beckham finished the game with 12 targets for five receptions, 38 yards and zero touchdowns.
