Stephen Welsh calls for Celtic calm as Hoops youngster backs 'serial winners' to bounce back

Stephen Welsh is adamant Celtic’s “serial winners” will bounce back from their Old Firm misery.

Neil Lennon’s side were defeated for the first time in domestic competition this season when Rangers claimed a comfortable weekend win at Parkhead.

Celtic, who were missing a raft of key players such as star striker Odsonne Edouard, were second best in every department as Steven Gerrard’s troops coasted to success in Glasgow’s East End.

Welsh, though, is convinced the quality is within the dressing room to fire straight back, starting in Thursday’s Europa League cracker against AC Milan.

Celtic have won the last 11 domestic trophies available and the 20-year-old believes the nous and character in the group gives him every confidence they will recover from the painful setback.

Welsh said: “There are serial winners in that changing room. It is still early in the season and it is one result.

“Anything can change. You saw it last season and have seen it in other seasons when we have won all these trophies.

“Everyone gets beaten. You cannot go through a full season and not lose. It happens.

“It’s really disappointing, but we have so many big games to come back into. We just need to bounce back and there is nothing better than a game against AC Milan. There’s the Scottish Cup. There are so many.”
