Stephen Robinson wants more from St Mirren strikers after firing blank against St Johnstone

Boss Stephen Robinson hopes his Buddies start making the right decisions again quickly as they look to bounce back from their defeat to St Johnstone.

St Mirren struggled to prise open the Perthshire Saints on Saturday afternoon, with strikers Jonah Ayunga and Curtis Main both missing chances to get the visitors on the scoresheet.

With a trip to Hearts this weekend offering a chance to make amends, Robinson wants his whole team to start making the better choices that saw them win three games on the spin - especially up front.

Robinson said: “There was no ranting and raving in the dressing room because we’d lost 3-0.

“They had two clear-cut chances and took them, we had three or four and took none.

“I don’t think our two forward players affected their back-three enough.

“For me it’s the key moments. We had a couple of one vs one opportunities in the first half and previously when we’ve broken we’ve made the right decisions, when we’ve had an overload or been three vs three, but we didn’t.

“We should score our first opportunity, we should score the second opportunity and then we miss from three yards out as well.

“It’s hard to criticise the players because they gave absolutely everything. As you could see, we went right to the end.

"All-in-all I think we’ll play a lot worse than that and win football matches.”
