Stephen Robinson on Doncaster Rovers final shortlist but Dundee United boss Micky Mellon NOT in the race

Stephen Robinson is down to the final shortlist for the vacant Doncaster Rovers job.

The former Motherwell boss has already been interviewed and is set for further discussions.

The English League One outfit are down to the final two or three candidates, with former Swindon and Salford boss Richie Wellens another name that is very much in the running.

Dundee United boss Micky Mellon has also been heavily linked with the Doncaster job.

There has been no approach to United to speak to their manager.

Wellens also had a spell with Doncaster as a player.

Robinson and Wellens have both made the cut from the initial short leet of six.

The Northern Irishman has been out of football since he stepped down as Motherwell manager at the end of the year.

The 46-year-old has also managed Oldham Athletic but made his name at Fir Park, where he led Motherwell to cup finals and into Europe.

Robinson has also shown he can develop young players as he showed by bringing in David Turnbull and Jake Hastie before they were sold to Celtic and Rangers, respectively.

Andy Butler was put in charge until the end of the season but they have now decided to look out with.
