Stephen Robinson backs Rangers 'consistency' calls as he issues Kemar Roofe defence

Stephen Robinson insists it would be 'harsh' for Kemar Roofe to be banned for his challenge on Murray Davidson as he blasted the 'flip of a coin' SFA disciplinary decisions.

The former Motherwell boss backed Steven Gerrard's call for more consistency and reckons Roofe had no intent during the challenge with Davidson.

The St Johnstone midfielder left the pitch with a separate injury soon after the tackle and Robinson reckons the former Leeds man was just trying to protect the ball.

And he feels it is unfair on Gerrard and Rangers for the SFA to have charged him because there's no consistency in the decisions being made by the governing body.

Robinson was speaking to Sky Sports where he was working as a pundit before Rangers game against Hamilton and he said: "When you first looked at it in slow motion, I wasn’t really sure.

"When you watch it back there’s no doubt he catches Murray Davidson. Murray’s a tough boy, he’s not going to go down without him catching him.

"But I actually believe, if you’ve played football at a decent level, he’s actually trying to get his body between man and ball and his momentum does take him down on him.

"I think it would be quite harsh. No doubt he caught him but how they look at these things? I think it’s a flip of the coin half the time.

"There’s absolutely no consistency. Steven is preparing for a game and he doesn’t know if he can involve a player or not involve the player. There needs to be consistency in the decision making, no doubt about it.

"The Morelos was was more obvious and I’d love to hear Kevin Clancy’s decision on it and Steven will be pulling his hair out about decisions like that but I think the Kemar Roofe one is different, I don’t think there’s a whole lot of intent."
