Stephen O'Brien free to face Dublin in All-Ireland Final as black card is rescinded

Stephen O’Brien has been freed to play in the All-Ireland football final against Dublin.

The flying wing-forward, who has been in the form of his career this summer, is free to line out against Dublin on September 1.

Having picked up his third black card of 2019 in last Sunday’s semi-final win over Tyrone, O’Brien was automatically suspended for the decider though a challenge to the caution he received against Meath earlier this month proved to be successful last month.

“Video evidence that Kerry produced overruled the referee’s report,” confirmed county board chairman Tim Murphy.

Kerry boss Peter Keane said: “Thankfully he's available to play in the All-Ireland final.

"You don't want to see any fellow miss out on the playing of the big day and Stephen has been very good for us this year and over the last few years he's been a key player for Kerry.

"This year in particular he's been playing very well for us."

Meanwhile, Keane has backed the appointment of David Gough as referee for the final, describing him as the “best referee in the country”.
