The Catchphrase and Britain’s Got More Talent host, 44, assured magistrates “it will never happen again” as he was prosecuted for breaking a 40mph limit on the M4 in west London.
Writing to Willesden magistrates’ court to admit the speeding offence, Mulhern conceded he “had another one” recently and acknowledged he had made a “serious mistake”.
He has been summoned to appear in court in September to be sentenced. In his handwritten letter from January 2 this year, Mulhern, of Chiswick, wrote: “I returned a copy of this form just before Christmas but did not send it recorded so have just filled it out and have re-sent it. I was the driver in this offence and am mortified to say I had another one last year.
“I can assure you it will never happen again and cannot apologise enough.” He is being prosecuted for driving a Volkswagen at 49mph along a 40mph stretch of the A4 through Brentford on November 16 last year. Police files show Mulhern was caught by a camera near to Clayponds Avenue, a speeding hotspot where 16,000 tickets were issued last year.
Court records do not contain any previous prosecutions of Mulhern, indicating that his first offence was dealt with by police with a fixed penalty fine.
