Stephen Mulhern branded a 'genius' after new Saturday night show praised by fans

Stephen Mulhern has been praised by fans after his new TV show 'In For A Penny' debuted on Saturday night.

Hundreds of people took to Twitter to big up the popular presenter with one fan branding him a 'genius'.

In For A Penny started as a segment on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway - but was commissioned to launch as a fully-fledged spin-off show.

The new ITV series involves Mulhern popping up in different locations across the country to persuade members of the public to take part in games and challenges.

Cash prizes are offered in return to the participants.

The first episode aired this evening where the presenter was causing havoc in Cardiff.

Stephen invited people to play 'in for a penny, in for a grand' and tasked people with some strange requests.

Some had to try and grab a pasty from a fishing rope with their mouth.

Another game involved Stephen paying for people's petrol if they could pump an exact amount in just two pumps.

After the show had finished, the hashtag '#InForAPenny' began trending online with hundreds of fans praising the presenter.
