Stephen Merchant spotted filming new BBC One show in Bristol

Bristol’s own Stephen Merchant has brought Hollywood royalty back home with him.

The 6’4” funnyman was filmed shooting comic crime thriller The Offenders on Park Street on Monday evening by Nathan Chadwick.

He is shown wearing a face mask while crew members arrange cameras and try to marshal members of the public away from the shoot.

Meanwhile, movie legend Christopher Walken was filming scenes down on the Harbourside for his first ever British TV role.

The six-part show also features stars of shows such as Hanna, Killing Eve, EaseEnders and Poldark - as well as current Loki actor, Richard E Grant.

The Offenders follows seven strangers from different walks of life forced together to complete a Community Payback sentence in Bristol.

They must unite to protect one of their own from Bristol’s most dangerous criminal gang.

Filming halted in March 2020, due to the pandemic and restarted in February.

A second series had already been ordered and is thought to be filmed back to back with the first.

It will be broadcast on BBC One in the UK and Amazon Prime Video internationally.
