Stephen Kingsley to Hearts transfer still on as Robbie Neilson looks to free up salary

Hearts remain hopeful they can land Stephen Kingsley after the window closes, Record Sport can reveal.

The former Scotland international is a free agent after he left Hull City in the summer, and knocked back a move to Tynecastle last month.

However, the the door has been re-opened and Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson is trying to see if he can free up enough wages to finalise a deal.

The Jambos are in need of a left-back after Aaron Hickey joined Bologna and it's thought Kingsley is their top target.

The 27-year-old has been back training at Falkirk and they are also keen to sign him.

There is also interest in England from the Championship and League One but Kingsley would prefer to remain in Scotland in the short-term.

As a free agent the defender can sign after the window closes.

Hearts kick off their season against Inverness in the Betfred Cup on Tuesday having been out of competitive action since March.

The capital club were relegated when the Premiership season was ended early and get their Championship campaign under way against Dundee on October 16.
