Stephen King's horror classic Carrie will be transformed into chilling TV series

Stephen King's horror classic Carrie will morph into a spine-tingling TV series.

The terrifying TV adaptation will be the work of masterminds FX and MGM Television, according to reports.

TV bosses are said to be hoping to make the series stand out by opting for more diverse casting including for the main character Carrie White, Collider reported.

Although there are plans for the show, there is no written down script for the thrilling series as of yet.

It is not yet known how long the TV series will be.

Carrie tells the infamous story of a telekinetic girl who unleashes her powers when she is humiliated at the school prom.

She also suffers at the hands of her overpowering religious mother who tries to control her.

It is a classic horror story which has been done time and time again.

A young John Travolta had a role in the 1976 original alongside Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie and Amy Irving.

The 1976 original even got a sequel called The Rage: Carrie 2 in 1999 in which Sue Snell makes an epic return.

Brooklyn Beckham's ex Chloë Grace Moretz starred as Carrie in the 2013 film version.

Julianne Moore played her controlling mother in the same adaptation of the book.
