Stephen King faces backlash over social media post about Charlie Kirk

  • Stephen King apologized after falsely claiming on social media that Charlie Kirk had advocated stoning gay people to death.
  • King's apology followed his deletion of a post on X/Twitter, where he had made the accusation, and subsequent evidence from users showing Kirk's support for LGBT rights.
  • King also replied to several other posts, including one from Senator Ted Cruz criticizing him, writing:“ This is what I get for reading something on Twitter w/o fact-checking.”
  • The incident occurred after Kirk was shot dead during his 'American Comeback Tour' at Utah Valley University, with 22-year-old Tyler Robinson arrested as a suspect.
  • Robinson reportedly told family members that Kirk was 'full of hate' in the months leading up to the shooting.
