Stephen Kenny spotted in crowd as Caoimhín Kelleher saves penalty for Liverpool

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny was in attendance at Carrow Road as three members of his Irish squad made starts in the Carabao Cup third round tie between Norwich City and Liverpool.

Andrew Omobamidele and Adam Idah both started for the home side while goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher got a start between the posts for the Redmen.

Unfortunately for Omobamidele and Idah - who are both looking to secure more game time with the Canaries - it wasn't Norwich's night as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to a rotated but strong Liverpool side.

Liverpool took the lead through Takumi Minamino after just four minutes, but Norwich were handed a glimmer of hope with the score still at 1-0 as they were awarded a penalty after Dimitris Giannoulis was fouled.

It was left to Christos Tzolis of Norwich to take and his right-footed effort was saved brilliantly by Kelleher in the Liverpool goal.

Kelleher got down quickly to his right hand side but it was a decisive save made with his foot as he was moving away from the ball - and his international boss Stephen Kenny was in the stands to witness it.

Kelleher was impressive overall in keeping a clean sheet and his penalty save was a critical moment which retained Liverpool's lead going into half time.

They added to the scoreline in the second half with goals from Divock Origi and a second from Minamino.

The trip to Carrow Road will have given Kenny food for thought after Kelleher's eye-catching performance; he is rather spoilt for choice in terms of talented goalkeepers when the recent form of Portsmouth loanee Gavin Bazunu is considered.

With Liverpool safely through to the next round of League Cup action, Kelleher is sure to get another chance to shine again soon.
