Stephen Kenny's son receives Northern Ireland call-up

Stephen Kenny’s son has been called up by Northern Ireland’s Under-18s.

Eoin Kenny, an attacking midfielder for Dundalk, will be part of Gerard Lyttle’s squad to face Manchester United’s Under-18s twice next week.

The games in Coleraine and Ballymena are part of this year’s SuperCup NI Tournament.

Kenny, 16, is a newcomer to Northern Ireland’s Under-18 ranks, along with Derry City defender Conor Barr and Accrington Stanley winger Lewis Trickett.

Lyttle, the former Sligo Rovers manager, said: “My squads usually feature lots of players from NIFL Premiership and League of Ireland clubs.

“I see this as an opportunity for players based here to once again show what they can do.

“It will be a massive test for the boys against such highly rated opposition. However, I have no doubt the players will rise to the occasion.”

Kenny, who was born in Derry and is also eligible for the Republic of Ireland, scored the opener in Dundalk Under-19’s 4-3 league win away to Shamrock Rovers at the weekend.

And against Bohemians earlier in the month, he scored a brace in a 5-1 away win.

Highly regarded at Dundalk, he is a product of Rock Celtic, the same club where Ireland squad man and QPR defender Jimmy Dunne was blooded as a youth.

Bayley McCann, son of Peterborough United manager Grant McCann, is also included in the Northern Ireland squad.
