Stephen Kenny offers update on Seamus Coleman fitness ahead of Ireland's Euro 2020 playoff

Stephen Kenny is resigned to losing Seamus Coleman for Thursday's Euro 2020 playoff in Slovakia.

The Ireland captain suffered a hamstring injury in Everton's 4-2 win over Brighton.

Ireland boss Kenny said today: "He seems to have a hamstring strain that will most likely rule him out.

"We'll have to see on that but the scan has revealed he will probably be most likely out. "He had the scan this morning and we've only just got the results now. It wasn't unexpected."

Coleman lost his place to Tottenham's Matt Doherty last month but on the back of good form for Everton, was pushing for a starting role in Bratislava.

Burnley defender Kevin Long has been called up to the squad as cover while Shamrock Rovers midfielder Jack Byrne is fit despite tweaking his groin against Sligo Rovers on Friday.

Blackburn defender Darragh Lenihan is out with a knee injury and Nottingham Forest midfielder Harry Arter is a doubt with a thigh strain.
