Stephen Jones: Giants got a ‘great offensive mind’ in Jason Garrett

Fans of the New York Giants did not want Jason Garrett as their next head coach. Ownership most likely did, that is, until Joe Judge showed up and knocked them silly at his job interview.

But the Giants still had their eye on Garrett, the man who coached the rival Dallas Cowboys for nine and a half seasons. Garrett had a regular season record of 85-67 with the ‘Boys and is widely considered a top offensive coach by many in this league.

Keep in mind that Garrett was not fired by Jerry Jones, nor was he unceremoniously kicked to the curb. The Jones family simply decided to part ways with Garrett, who, according to their official statement, really, really liked him…

The Giants really liked him, too, and lucked out when Garrett agreed to take their open offensive coordinator gig. Still, the Cowboys have no ill will for Garrett.

“Jason’s a football guy. He wants to go coach. He’s a great offensive mind,” Cowboys VP Stephen Jones told reporters on Tuesday. “I always wish Jason nothing but the best. He was nothing but a class act here.”

So, don’t expect some kind of revenge game or blood feud when the Giants and Cowboys meet this season. It’s all good between the Cowboys and Garrett.
