Forget the spectacle of the Pyramid Stage, or the pagan peculiarity of the Stone Circle, this year’s Glastonbury is all about the Kidz Field: to celebrate its 21st birthday, the area at the annual Somerset event will play host to Professor Stephen Hawking.
It is not yet known what subjects the renowned physicist and mathematician will be speaking about, but following his latest dalliance with pop culture he could touch on any number of musical topics. Hawking was sampled on the recent Pink Floyd album, he covered Monty Python’s Galaxy Song for this year’s Record Store Day and most recently, appearing as a hologram in Sydney, he reassured One Direction fans to pay close attention to theoretical physics because it might come up with proof of an alternative universe in which Zayn Malik had not left the band.
If you’re planning on setting up camp at the Kidz Field in anticipation for Hawking’s appearance, you will also find magician Dynamo on the bill, CBeebies favourites Alex Winters and Katy Ashworth, children’s theatre from Tucked in Theatre’s The Golden Cowpat, DNA Theatre’s Chicken Licken and Rhubarb Theatre’s Bookworms production to name a few.
This year’s Glastonbury headliners are Foo Fighters, Kanye West and The Who.
