Stephen Glass purrs over Aberdeen standard setter as debut hero Christian Ramirez finds 'new home'

Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass could never have imagined the rip-roaring performance his Dons would pull out of the bag against BK Hacken to enthral the thousands of fans in attendance.

But now that the standard has been set, he insists that's the benchmark for his squad to replicate every week.

The Europa Conference League qualifiers arrived at Pittodrie with Andy Considine scoring first and a Lewis Ferguson penalty making it 2-0 by half-time.

The home side were well in control when Ferguson added another from distance while Christian Ramirez and Connor McLennan scored another two for a rampant 5-1 win.

Speaking to the BBC, Glass said: “I don’t think you can stand here and say you think you’re going to score five goals but I could sense the excitement from the players.

“They came here and trained yesterday, the backing from the public was here, you could hear it even in the warm-up.

“I think that excitement level, the work the players have put in, I’m delighted they get the reward for the work they’ve done over the last five weeks.

“There was a lot of emotion at the start of the game.

“We’ve seen this team on video and know where their threats are. But I think the quality we showed deserved the victory it got."

Asked if that's what he wants a Stephen Glass Aberdeen team to look like, the manager responded: “Yeah. We believe we’re doing the right things.

“We’re trying to be positive, trying to be a threat and trying to be focused tactically.

“We showed that against a very good team and we shouldn’t underestimate how good they were tonight as well."

Ramirez's debut goal calmed any lingering nerves after Alexandre Jeremejeff had pulled one back for Hacken.

And Glass insists the American already feels at home as he waits for his family to join him in the Granite City.

“Centre forwards want to feel good about themselves by scoring goals," he added. “But his contribution to the game, regardless of the goal, was excellent.

“He’s sitting in there happy with his lot. I don’t think his family is here yet, so it’s good they’ll have seen he scored the goal.

“They’ll come over here and they’ll know he’s found a new home, he’s scoring goals and he’s happy.”
