Stephen Glass plays down Aberdeen pitch invasion as he insists late winner reaction 'shows what it means'

Stephen Glass admits he couldn’t blame the Red Army for their wild pitch invasion after Jack MacKenzie’s 94th minute winner saw Aberdeen leave Livingston with all three points.

Hundreds of away fans spilled onto the Tony Macaroni pitch in frenzied scenes that could land both clubs in trouble with the authorities.

But having spent the best part of 18 months locked out of grounds Glass insists he couldn’t blame the 900-strong travelling support for their crazed celebrations as MacKenzie strike made it two wins from two.

All eyes were on JET as the big striker touched down in Livingston for the first time since his summer departure for the north east.

But it was another new face - Teddy Jenks - and home-grown hero MacKenzie who both rocketed home first ever senior goals to ensure Aberdeen soared back to second in the Premiership table.

MacKenzie’s 94th minute thunderbolt squirmed through hapless Livi keeper Max Strykjek’s hands to leave Livi rooted to the bottom of the table despite taking a 35th minute lead through ex-Don Bruce Anderson.

And Glass said: “I think it shows what it means, people have had some emotions pent up across the country.

“I’m pleased they were given that opportunity to show their backing. You could feel it and it did drive the team on.

“With the performance level the fans could feel there was something coming.

“Supporters drive players on and I think you’ll see good games. I can’t wait for places to be full every week.

"You don't want people to come on the pitch, but I think there's pent-up frustration and emotion.

"It's not up to me to steward the fans. All we can do is put something on the pitch and hope they are delighted to see it.

"That's really all I can say on it. It's not for me to police and keep people in the stands or have enough stewards around.

“Our first half performance was a bit slow. We allowed them to dictate a bit but off the back of the travel and changes it was understandable. The response in the second half was more important.”
