One mainstay of British camp will meet another this autumn, as Stephen Fry joins the cast of The Rocky Horror Show.

He will share the role of the Narrator with The Great British Bake-Off’s Mel Giedroyc and former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, in a special gala performance on 17 September.

The musical, about a newly engaged couple ending up in the home of a mad scientist, is returning to the West End for a sold out 11-performance run, featuring the show’s writer and original cast member Richard O’Brien, who will also play the Narrator. The gala performance will be live-streamed to cinemas across the UK and Europe.

Fry called the chance to appear in Rocky Horror as “a dream come true”, while Bunton – who recently dampened rumours that the Spice Girls were reforming – described the cross-dressing musical as “a huge part of British culture”. Its songs include singalong classics like The Timewarp, Sweet Transvestite and Dammit, Janet!, and the show was adapted into the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show – amassing a passionate cult fanbase along the way.
