Stephen Ferris was quick to point out players that did not take their opportunities in Rome as Ireland laboured to a 34-20 win against Italy.
Andy Farrell's side were tested in Rome with their opponents scoring two tries in the process.
It was a nervy finish for the number one side in the world with the game very much in the melting pot until Mack Hansen's late try put daylight between the two teams.
Ireland were without a number of their star players for the game with Farrell giving the likes of Craig Casey and Ross Byrne the nod to start.
And appearing on RTE's Six Nations coverage, Stephen Ferris was asked by host Jacqui Hurley which players did not take their opportunity in Rome.
He said: "There was a few. You have the regulars that always play well like Caelan Doris was fantastic again today.
"James Lowe squandered a couple of chances, he creates an awful lot but he dropped the ball over the line twice.
"I thought Stuart McCloskey went very well in the centre, I thought he went much better than Bundee Aki did.
"Right across the board I think they are so much more consistent, nobody has a shocker these days. When we were playing there were always two or three lads always hiding in the changing room and that's the most pleasing thing".
