Stephen Curry tweets love to D’Angelo Russell during 52-point effort

Stephen Curry may have been far away from his club during Friday night’s 125-119 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, but wherever he was, he was watching the D’Angelo Russell show.

In case you missed it, Russell became the 14th player in franchise history to score at least 50 points and the first since Rick Barry in 1958 to turn in the type of effort he did: 52 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Surprisingly, not even Curry himself has been able to turn in such an effort. The closest he came was against the New York Knicks back on February 27, 2013. That night, in Madison Square Garden, Curry gave the Knicks 54 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Unfortunately for Chef Curry, though, the numbers came in a loss.

He still appreciated what Russell was able to accomplish, though.

“Welcome back @Dloading,” Curry tweeted at 10:19 p.m. ET. At that time, Russell was well past 40 points and was lighting up the Timberwolves in a way that had the team truly confounded.

Unfortunately, the Warriors fell short in overtime, but without question, Curry—who is expected to be reevaluated in four months after undergoing surgery to repair his broken left metacarpal—should be excited to take the floor with his young running mate.

Between Eric Paschall, Alec Burks and even Ky Bowman, Russell becomes the latest Warrior to turn in a performance that leaves the masses, including Curry, in awe.
