Stephen Curry’s Historic Game 7 Had Steve Kerr Sharing a Special Michael Jordan Comparison

With his 50-point outburst in Sunday’s 120–100 victory over the KingsWarriors star Stephen Curry not only secured the defending champs a spot in the second round, but he also set a new record for most points scored in a Game 7 in NBA history. The league’s all-time leader in three-pointers added another iconic performance to his already stellar career, and he drew some high praise from his head coach in the form of a flattering comparison.

After the game, Golden State coach Steve Kerr marveled at Curry’s performance and evoked his former Bulls teammate and six-time champion Michael Jordan when describing Curry’s consistent excellence.

“He doesn’t surprise me,” Kerr said. “We all take him for granted because he’s brilliant night after night, and we’ve been watching this for 10 years. You just have to remind yourself every once in a while, big picture, this is one of the great players in the history of the game. But that’s how I felt back in my playing days with Michael Jordan. You’d see it night after night so you just took it for granted. That’s how it is with Steph: It’s over and over and over again, and the resilience and the work that goes into that and the focus is incredible to watch.”

Curry was brilliant in staving off elimination and advancing the Warriors into the second round, neutralizing a raucous Sacramento crowd. He made 20 of his 38 shots—the most field goal attempts of his career—adding eight rebounds, six assists and just one turnover.

The Warriors will now face the Lakers in the second round of the playoffs, with Game 1 set for Tuesday at Chase Center.
