Stephen Curry joins LeBron James on wrong side of history

The Golden State Warriors returned home to The Bay feeling quite confident about themselves. They stole home court away from the Toronto Raptors with a Game 2 victory, but then they got hit with more injury news. The result? They fell flat at home in Game 3, 123-109, which gives home-court advantage back to Toronto.

The defending champs were missing Kevin Durant and Kevon Looney already, but they then ruled Klay Thompson out moments before tipoff. He suffered a hamstring strain in the Game 2 win.

With those guys out, Stephen Curry needed to be special and special he was. Curry dropped a playoff career-high 47 points, pulled down eight rebounds and dished seven assists.

Alas, it wasn’t enough. Curry now joins LeBron James as the only players in NBA Finals history to score 47 or more points in a Finals’ loss. Of course, everybody remembers James scoring 51 points in Game 1 of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2018 Finals loss to Golden State.

Curry and the Warriors now have their backs against the wall once again. They responded like champions in Game 2. Now, it is time for them to show off their championship mettle on Friday in Game 4.
