Stephen Colbert reflects on 33-year The Late Show run in emotional final monologue

Stephen Colbert has reflected on his 33-year-run as The Late Show host in a sentimental final monologue.

Last July, the long-running show was cancelled after Colbert criticised CBS and its parent company, Paramount, over a $16 million settlement with Donald Trump.

At the beginning of the star-studded finale on Thursday (21 May), the 62-year-old walked out with no preamble or opening sketch, instead saying he wanted to speak directly to the audience.

“This show, I want you to know, and you to know, has been a joy for us to do for you,” explaining that himself and the team call it the “joy machine”.

“We were here to feel the news with you. And I don't know about you, but I sure have felt it.”
