Stephen Bradley insists Shamrock Rovers are 'still waiting to hit their stride'

Stephen Bradley hailed his Shamrock Rovers players for delivering with yet another last gasp goal.

But he is confident the Hoops won’t have to rely so much on late interventions once the season settles down.

Danny Mandroiu floored Drogheda United with a 95th minute winner in last night’s 1-0 success at Head in the Game Park.

Last Saturday, the champions required a 93rd minute winner from Sean Gannon to beat Longford Town 2-1 in Tallaght.

Rory Gaffney plundered an 88th minute equaliser away to Sligo Rovers and Aaron Greene bagged an 89th minute leveller against St Pat’s on the opening night.

But after the Drogheda win, Bradley said: "To be fair to the group they have shown that they keep believing.

“They trust the process and what we do and they are getting their rewards.

"It's not a coincidence that we've had so many late goals with their fitness. We are very fit but it's how we grind teams down as well.”

Bradley does not want to be relying on late goals all of the time, but is confident that will change.

“It's early in the season and you have to respect that,” he continued.

"Everyone is right at it this early on and everyone usually has a full squad to choose from in terms of injuries and suspensions and everyone is in the mix.

"When it settles down, the season becomes a little different. But at the start of the season it's always the same.

"It's about getting points on the board and it's nice having them while we're waiting to hit our stride.”

Drogheda - last year’s First Division champions - made life difficult for the Hoops last night.

And Bradley has warned rivals that they will have their work cut out to get any reward from trips there this season.

“No team will come here and get an easy game,” he said.

"Everything from the goalkeeper is on top of you and Mark Doyle is a handful, Dinny Corcoran has to come in and they have runners off that.

"It's a small pitch and I expect no team will come here and have an easy game. Tim Clancy has them right at it and they will be difficult for anyone.”
