Stephen Bradley encouraged by 'glimpses' of what Rory Gaffney can do for Shamrock Rovers in Dundalk cameo

New Shamrock Rovers striker Rory Gaffney left Stephen Bradley purring after an eye-catching debut off the bench - but the Hoops boss reckons the new striker won’t be at his best for six weeks as he hasn’t played for two months.

Former Salford City man Gaffney helped turn Friday’s big clash with Dundalk in Rovers favour and Bradley knows all about his qualities having played together at Limerick.

Bradley said: “He showed glimpses of what he’s going to give to us. He’s quick, strong, both-footed and a nightmare for defenders.

“He’ll only get stronger and quicker. We won’t see the best of him for six weeks but we’ll build on the minutes he got on Friday.

“He showed glimpses of why we wanted him so badly, he’s going to be a handful for players.”

But Joey O’Brien is facing a number of weeks on the sidelines after pulling his hamstring in the 13th minute of that win over Dundalk.

“It looks like he’s struggling,” said Bradley, who added that Gary O’Neill wanted to be at the game to support team-mates despite the death of his mother earlier in the week.
