Stephen Bradley confident Aaron Greene will be fit for FAI Cup final

Aaron Greene will be given every chance of making Sunday’s FAI Cup final at Aviva Stadium.

The Shamrock Rovers striker missed Sunday’s 2-0 semi-final win over Sligo Rovers with an ankle injury.

He shipped the knock in a training ground collision with Roberto Lopes ahead of that game.

But Hoops boss Stephen Bradley is confident he will be fit to face Dundalk as Rovers chase a first double in 33 years and a first unbeaten double in 95 years.

Bradley said today: “Aaron clashed in training with Pico and hurt his ankle. I think he’s fine. It just swelled up a bit last week.”

Neil Farrugia is a doubt with a hamstring issue and will be monitored.

But Greg Bolger should make the squad having returned on Sunday from five months out with a broken leg.

Bradley added: “Greg is good, he came through Sunday with no issues. He’s trained all week with no issues, he’s good to go.”

Lopes has only just returned to training having been belatedly deemed a close contact of a positive Covid-19 case on his flight home from international duty with Cape Verde.

He had been due to start the semi-final against Sligo, but the HSE informed Rovers of the close contact situation ahead of that game.

Backup keeper Leoh Pohls missed the semi-final after injuring his shoulder in training the day before but is fit for the final.

Long term absentees Gary O’Neill - who scored the winning penalty in last season’s final against Dundallk - and Rory Gaffney remain out.
