Stephen Bradley compares Shamrock Rovers striker Dean Williams with Ireland legend Robbie Keane

Dean Williams reminds Stephen Bradley of a young Robbie Keane.

The Shamrock Rovers striker, 20, scored his first senior goal for the Hoops in their 6-1 romp over Waterford on Monday.

Jack Byrne sent him scampering free in injury-time and Williams cooly nutmegged Blues goalkeeper Brian Murphy.

It was just reward for the striker who thrived on loan at First Division Bray Wanderers and Athlone Town last season.

Williams has made seven league appearances for the Hoops this season - one start - with Bradley a big fan of the youngster.

“I don’t think I’ve seen movement like Dean since Robbie (Keane) when he was younger,” said the Rovers boss.

“He’s so clever with his movement, he dips in front and then he’s down the side and he’s off the front.

“He’s really clever and because of that - and the way we play - I feel Dean will score a lot of goals for us.

“He’ll get chances and there’s not many better than him one-on-one. He always finishes. He’s not the biggest physically, but he’s so clever.”

And Bradley added: “Dean scored 16 goals last season in the First Division. He had offers to go elsewhere but he wants to be in a team that’s challenging.

“He’s still only 20, he’s only young. He has a big future at this club and Dean knows that.”
