There’s a reasonable argument to be made the Stephen A. Smith is overworked at ESPN. He has First Take, his radio show, and various spot appearances on ESPN programming throughout the day (and night). Smith whiffing hard on a Chargers-Chiefs preview wasn’t a great look, sure.
But if Smith did dial things back a bit, we wouldn’t have been treated to his blistering Lakers rant on Tuesday.
Following the Lakers’ demoralizing loss to the Grizzlies on Monday, The Stephen A. Smith Show became a platform for rapid-fire insults unloaded at the Lakers. It was Stephen A at his best.
“THE LAKERS STINK!”
“SOMEBODY HAS TO SAY IT! They’re the Grinches who stole Christmas! They’re contaminating Hollywood!”
So. Good. AHHHH.
That rant made his First Take appearances look mild. Smith brought the heat.
