Stephen A.: Noise is ‘elevating’ about Jimmy and Kawhi with Clippers

Deals are getting done left and right in the first hours of fhe NBA free agent period, but there remain two key free agents who have been connected to the Lakers who are still in play. And it appears that they could team up together across the hall from the Lakers at Staples Center.

Stephen A. Smith of ESPN has become the latest to report that the possibility of Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler teaming up on the Los Angeles Clippers is a strong one.

The Clippers currently have enough cap space to sign two max players, making it the easiest potential place for both players to sign at once. The New York Knicks just used up a good portion of their cap space to sign Julius Randle, while the Brooklyn Nets have used their league-high cap space to sign Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan in the opening of free agency.

If Leonard does indeed chose to go to the Clippers or stay with the Toronto Raptors, it doesn’t look like the Lakers will have too many more good options to fill out their roster. Potential Lakers targets Terrence Ross and Trevor Ariza have already signed elsewhere.
