Stephane Adam in 'late' Rangers dig as Hearts legend marks 1998 Scottish Cup final win

Stephane Adam has aimed a cheeky dig at Rangers while marking the anniversary of Hearts’ 1998 Scottish Cup win.

Sunday 16 May was the 23rd anniversary of the Jambos lifting the trophy at Celtic Park.

Colin Cameron’s early penalty and Adam’s second half strike put Jim Jefferies’ team 2-0 up before a late Ally McCoist goal set up a nerve shredding final ten minutes.

But the Tynecastle side held on to claim their first piece of silverware in 36 years.

It also signalled the end of Rangers’ period of dominance in the 90s.

The Ibrox club had won nine Premiership titles in a row until that season, but were denied an historic tenth by Wim Jansen’s Celtic, who finished on top after a three-way title battle with their city rivals and Hearts.

The Scottish Cup final was Walter Smith’s last chance to bow out of his first spell with a trophy, but the capital club made it third time lucky in finals against his Gers side, having lost a previous Scottish Cup final 5-1 and a thrilling League Cup encounter 4-3.

Adam wrote himself into Hearts history that day, and he celebrated the occasion over two decades later by tweeting the highlights with a message claiming they’d beaten the “late” Rangers Football Club.

It read: “23 years ago today, we won the Scottish cup against the late rangers football club (RIP).

“Memories !!

“Happy 16th of May Jambos !!”

Adam spent a further three yeast at Hearts before leaving as a bonafide club legend in 2001.
