Stephan Lichtsteiner has said that Unai Emery struggled to communicate with Arsenal's top players during his tenure as head coach.
The Spaniard, who was sacked last week, had well documented issues with Mesut Ozil having left the attacking midfielder out of his matchday squad last season as well as this.
Furthermore, football.london revealed last month that several younger members of the Gunners' first-team squad were confused by Emery's management.
Alexandre Lacazette was seen engaging in what looked like a heated row with Emery during the second half against Southampton, while Kieran Tierney was seen appearing to tell the former head coach to 'calm down' during the 1-1 draw with Wolves at the beginning of the November.
In addition, Bukayo Saka admitted that he struggled to understands instructions from Emery.
And now the first signing of Emery's reign as head coach at the Emirates Stadium has lifted the lid on the Spanish tactician's major problem which ultimately led to his downfall.
"I’d say [he is] a good trainer, a good coach, but maybe he struggled with the top players," Lichtsteiner said in an interview with the i .
"With the big players, he hasn’t maybe the relationship to bring more out [of them] and get the top performances.
"Maybe that point I can say [something] negative, but the rest was almost everything positive."

Lichtsteiner isn't the first of Emery's former players to make such claims about his communication issues.
Julian Draxler, who played under the Spaniard at Paris Saint-Germain, said the same thing last week.
"Under Unai Emery, I realised that playing abroad was different," he told Goal.
"I consider him a very good coach, but with him the communication was sometimes not that easy.
"When you talk to Thomas ([Tuchel] and he clearly tells you in two sentences in German what is good and what is not good, that is certainly an advantage."
Lichtsteiner left Arsenal after one season and is now playing his football in the Bundesliga with FC Augsburg.
